About James R.
James R. Silverstein trained at Tulane University, where he completed both his undergraduate degree and his law degree. He spent his formative academic years in New Orleans, earning a B.A. before continuing at Tulane University School of Law for his J.D. Those years set the stage for a practice that spans both state and federal courts across the Gulf Coast and beyond.
After law school, Silverstein built a practice that moved steadily toward litigation and appellate work. He now serves as a partner at Kean Miller LLP. Over the course of his career he has secured admissions to numerous courts, including the United States Supreme Court and several federal circuits and district courts. His credentials cover the 11th and 5th Circuits and federal districts in Texas and Louisiana, among others.
Silverstein maintains memberships in several professional organizations. He is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He also holds active memberships in the American Bar Association and the Defense Research Institute. Within the region, he participates in both the Louisiana and Texas bar associations. Those affiliations reflect a long-standing engagement with professional and trial-oriented communities.
In practice, Silverstein handles civil litigation at both trial and appellate levels. He appears in state courts in Texas and Louisiana and in federal courts across multiple districts. His courtroom work includes brief writing, motion practice and the management of trials. He represents corporate and individual clients in disputes that require navigation of procedural and substantive issues across jurisdictions.
Colleagues describe him as pragmatic in courtroom settings and attentive when preparing appeals and complex motions. He combines courtroom experience with the procedural knowledge needed for multi-district and cross-jurisdiction matters. That combination informs how he approaches case strategy and client counsel.
As partner at Kean Miller LLP, Silverstein splits his time among litigation, appellate advocacy and mentoring younger attorneys. He continues to accept cases in state and federal courts and remains active in the professional organizations that connect trial lawyers across the region. He currently concentrates his practice on civil litigation and appellate work in Texas and Louisiana.
