About Howard Mark
Howard Mark Ullman began his legal path at the University of Chicago, where he completed a B.A. and finished his undergraduate studies in 1989. He went on to earn a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1992. Those formative years set up an early federal appellate clerkship and a move into private practice.
Fresh from Harvard, Ullman served as a law clerk for the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit from 1992 to 1993. The clerkship placed him at the center of federal appellate work and gave him direct experience with the mechanics of appellate decision-making. He entered private practice the following year.
From 1993 until 1999 he practiced as a lawyer at Taft, Stettinius & Hollister LLP. During that period he handled client matters at a large regional firm and gained courtroom and transactional exposure. He also took on an instructor role from 1998 to 1999, teaching while continuing in practice. That mix of teaching and firm work broadened his perspective on legal problems and on training younger lawyers.
Ullman later joined Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP as Of Counsel. He is admitted to practice in Ohio and California and maintains an active license. His background includes federal appellate experience from his clerkship and years at a major regional firm, and he draws on that procedural and practical knowledge in his current role. Colleagues note his steady courtroom experience and his familiarity with multi-jurisdictional matters.
Today he is Of Counsel at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP. He practices under the bar admissions of Ohio and California and handles matters that arise in those jurisdictions. His current practice focuses on legal matters in Ohio and California.
