About Harriet

Harriet Roland graduated from Regents College with a B.S. in accounting in 1990. She went on to earn an MBA in taxation from the University of Nevada–Las Vegas in 1992 and a J.D. from the University of Denver in 1994. Those three degrees form a consecutive progression: accounting, tax, then law. They also help explain the mix of financial and legal work that has marked her career.

Roland began practicing immediately after law school. Her earliest positions include work at Barker Gillock et al in 1994 and at Alverson Taylor et al in 1995. In 1996 she was associated both with Gerard & Cox and with a professional practice listed as Harriet H Roland MBA JD PLC. She later joined Roland & Kaplan, Prof. LLC as a partner in 2010 and established Roland Law Office in 2013. Over the years she has been licensed to practice in both Nevada and Colorado.

Her professional associations are steady and long-standing. She has held membership in the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys since 1994. She also lists memberships in the American Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association and the Clarke County Bar Association, each beginning in 1995 and continuing to the present. Those affiliations align with the cross-jurisdictional work she has handled and with her interest in elder law and related fields.

The combination of an accounting undergraduate degree and an MBA in taxation informs how she approaches client matters. Cases involving estate planning, probate administration and tax questions have appeared repeatedly in her practice history. Membership in an elder law academy suggests an emphasis on the legal issues that affect older adults, including long-term care planning and asset protection. She has taken on both transactional and advisory work, as well as representation in probate and post-death administration.

Roland runs Roland Law Office, where she continues to represent clients in Nevada and Colorado. She manages matters that intersect tax, estate and elder law concerns and advises individuals and families on planning and administration issues. She currently focuses on elder law, estate planning, probate and tax-related matters.
