About Gregory Michael
Gregory Michael Funfsinn earned his B.S. in criminal justice from Loyola University Chicago in 2003 and completed his J.D. at Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2007. He grew up curious about how disputes are resolved in and out of court. Law school sharpened that interest and prepared him for trial work.
He began his legal career at the Cook County State's Lawyer's Office, where he served as an Assistant State's Lawyer in 2008. That early courtroom work gave him experience in advocacy and case management under pressure. He moved into private practice in the following years, taking associate roles at Golden & Walters, PLLC in 2012 and at Landrum & Shouse LLP in 2013. By 2015 he had advanced to senior associate and partner-level work at Walters Meadows Richards, PLLC. In 2018 he opened his own firm, Hicks & Funfsinn, PLLC, where he listed his professional title as owner and trial lawyer.
Funfsinn is admitted to practice in Illinois and Kentucky and is admitted to appear before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. His memberships trace a mix of local and national organizations. He has been a member of the Fayette County Bar Association since 2012 and joined the Thoroughbred Club of America in 2015. Between 2014 and 2017 he was active in a number of industry and defense-oriented groups, serving as Community Service Chair and later Vice President of the Bluegrass Claims Association, and as Secretary of the National Society of Professional Insurance Investigators. He is also a graduate of Leadership Kentucky’s 2014 class.
Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who prefers the clarity of contested proceedings to other forms of practice. His work over the past decade has been concentrated in trial litigation. He has handled matters at trial level and on appeal, and he brings courtroom preparation and witness work to his cases. At Hicks & Funfsinn he oversees litigation strategy and trial preparation for the firm’s matters.
He maintains an active practice through Hicks & Funfsinn, PLLC and continues to litigate in Kentucky state courts and in federal forums, including the Sixth Circuit. His current practice centers on trial litigation in Kentucky and before federal courts.
