About Geoffrey H. L.
Geoffrey H. L. Pittman earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Southern Adventist University in 2012. He completed his legal education at Florida Coastal School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 2014. Those years of study combined a liberal arts grounding with three years of law school discipline, shaping a lawyer who moved quickly from classroom to courtroom.
After law school, Pittman entered public defense. In 2015 he served as an Assistant Public Defender in the Office of the Public Defender for Florida’s 1st Judicial Circuit. There he handled the day-to-day work of public defense: client intake, pretrial preparation and courtroom appearances. The position gave him regular trial exposure and the experience of representing people who could not afford private counsel.
Pittman joined Ward & Barnes, P.A. as an associate in 2017. At that firm he shifted to private practice while maintaining a practice rooted in criminal defense. His work has included courtroom hearings, motion practice and negotiations. In 2017 he also gained admission to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida, allowing him to take matters into federal court when cases required it.
Outside of casework, Pittman is active in several professional groups. He is a member of the Escambia-Santa Rosa Bar Association and belongs to the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He also participates in the Young Lawyers Division of the Florida Bar. Those memberships reflect regular contact with peers across the state and locally in northwest Florida.
Colleagues describe Pittman as methodical in his case preparation and straightforward in client conversations. He tends to emphasize practical options for resolving cases, whether by trial or negotiated resolution. His courtroom experience from public defense years forward has informed a pragmatic approach to assessing risk and advising clients on realistic outcomes.
Pittman is based in Florida and continues to practice at Ward & Barnes, P.A. He handles criminal matters for clients in state and federal forums and maintains memberships that support his work in criminal defense. His current practice concentrates on defending individuals charged in Florida courts and matters filed in the Northern District of Florida.
