About Garth
Garth Best built his legal foundations at two very different institutions. He studied International Studies and Arabic at the Virginia Military Institute and later earned a J.D. from the Nashville School of Law. Those classroom years exposed him to both global perspectives and the practical training that would shape an early career in public defense.
He began his work in courtrooms as a public defender for the State of Tennessee in 2008. That role put him on the front line of criminal defense. He handled arraignments, negotiated pleas, and tried cases. The work demanded quick judgment and steady advocacy for clients who often had few resources.
In 2013 he joined the CJA Federal Panel. That appointment broadened his experience into the federal system. It added another layer to his practice—managing federal investigations, federal indictments, and the procedural differences that federal practice requires. He has maintained that panel membership while also working in state courts.
By 2016 he took on professional affiliations that reflected his practice interests. He became a member of the National Academy of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the National College of DUI Defense. He was already a member of the Tennessee Bar Association since 2010. Those associations connect him to colleagues and to continuing education, particularly in criminal law and impaired-driving defense.
In 2017 he became a partner at Best Hayduk & Brock, PLLC. As a partner he shares responsibility for case strategy, client counseling, and overseeing trial preparation. Colleagues and clients see him in court, at hearings, and in meetings where case decisions are made.
He also holds a Certificate of Standardized Field Sobriety Testing from Ron Lloyd Enterprises. That credential supports his work on DUI and impaired-driving cases. It lets him scrutinize the procedures and evidence common in those prosecutions.
The arc of his career runs from public defense to federal panel work and into private practice partnership. He has kept steady ties to criminal defense networks and to the practical training that underpins courtroom advocacy. He practices in Tennessee and on matters that may reach the federal circuit. He currently practices at Best Hayduk & Brock, PLLC, handling criminal defense, federal cases and DUI matters.
