About Garren R
Garren R Laymon earned his Juris Doctor from Washington and Lee University School of Law. He completed the law degree before entering practice in Virginia and developing a career that spans both courtroom work and teaching.
Early in his career Laymon secured admission to practice in Virginia and secured the right to appear before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Those admissions position him to handle matters that arise in state courts and matters that ascend to the federal appellate level. He has combined courtroom work with roles in legal education over time.
Since 2010 Laymon has served as an Assistant Professor (Adjunct) at Virginia Western Community College. Colleagues describe him as a steady presence in the classroom. Students who take his courses see an instructor who brings practical experience into discussions, and he has remained on the adjunct faculty while continuing his legal work.
In practice Laymon represents clients in a mix of state and federal matters. He drafts pleadings and briefs, argues motions, and handles appellate filings when cases move beyond the trial court. His work requires attention to procedural detail at both the trial and appellate stages. He has worked on cases that require navigating state rules and federal appellate procedure in the Fourth Circuit.
Outside of the classroom and the courthouse Laymon has balanced casework with client counseling. He meets with clients to define objectives, review options, and map litigation strategies. That aspect of his work often shapes how he prepares cases for trial or appeal. He favors clear, methodical preparation and relies on written advocacy in appellate matters.
Laymon continues to practice law in Virginia and appears before the Fourth Circuit when appeals arise. He remains active in instruction at the community college and in legal matters that move through state and federal systems. He handles state and federal litigation and appellate work.
