About Cagatay
Cagatay Ersoy combined legal training from two continents before stepping into a firm leadership role in New York. He earned an LL.B. from Istanbul University Faculty of Law in 2015 and returned to formal study to complete an LL.M. at Columbia Law School in 2022. Those years bookend a shift from a domestic legal education to exposure to U.S. law schools and New York’s legal environment.
His path to practice in the United States was methodical. After completing his Columbia degree, he obtained membership in the State Bar of New York in 2024, a step that allowed him to practice in that jurisdiction. The membership came two years after his LL.M., and it set the stage for his next professional move — taking on a senior role at a New York firm.
In 2024 he became Managing Lawyer at Capitol Law Partners PLLC. The title reflects responsibility for client matters and internal practice oversight. In that role he has overseen casework, supervised associates, and coordinated with outside counsel. The position also involves administrative duties that accompany running a small firm in a major U.S. jurisdiction.
Ersoy’s academic background gives him a foundation in both Turkish and American legal systems. That combination informs how he approaches issues that cross borders or involve comparative legal questions. He can draw on training from Istanbul University and Columbia Law to assess differences in legal frameworks and to advise on procedural or substantive points that arise when matters touch more than one jurisdiction.
Today he practices at Capitol Law Partners PLLC in New York. His work centers on matters where U.S. law intersects with international concerns, and he focuses on cross-border commercial and regulatory matters in his current practice.
