About Eric
Eric Pernie built his professional life on an early interest in criminal justice. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Ferris State University in 2005. Nearly a decade later he completed a Juris Doctor at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, finishing law school in 2014 and concentrating his studies on criminal law.
Before he became an attorney, Pernie entered law enforcement. He became a certified police officer in 2005 through the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES). That early experience placed him on the other side of many of the legal issues he would later address in court. It also gave him practical exposure to police procedures, reporting and courtroom testimony.
After law school, Pernie moved into criminal defense work. His background in policing informed how he approached cases and client interviews. He also pursued additional credentialing relevant to impaired-driving cases. He holds a DUI Defense: Lead Counsel certification, a credential aimed at attorneys who handle driving-under-the-influence matters and related evidentiary challenges.
Pernie has maintained active memberships in professional groups that reflect his practice interests. He joined the DUI Defense Lawyers Association in 2017 and the Oakland County Bar Association the same year. He became a member of the American Bar Association in 2018. These affiliations connect him to continuing education and peer networks in criminal and DUI defense.
He practices in Michigan and is listed as counsel at Fraiberg & Pernie, PLLC. At the firm he handles criminal cases that include DUI, impaired driving, and related misdemeanor and felony charges. His filework ranges from pre-charge investigations and motions to hearings and trials. Clients who require counsel in the aftermath of an arrest typically consult him for case assessment and strategy.
Pernie balances courtroom work with procedural preparation, often examining police reports, chemical test results and witness statements. He draws on his law-enforcement background when evaluating investigative steps and potential defenses. The combination of policing experience and courtroom practice shapes how he approaches factual and legal issues.
He continues to practice in Michigan at Fraiberg & Pernie, PLLC, concentrating on DUI and criminal defense matters in state courts.
