About Dylan R.

Dylan R. Boyd built his legal foundation in New England. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Vermont in 2006 and completed his Juris Doctor at the University of Maine School of Law in 2010. Those years set the stage for a career rooted in courtroom work and client advocacy.

While still in law school he worked as a student lawyer at the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic in 2009. That practical experience exposed him to client interviews, brief writing and courtroom appearances under supervision. He moved into private practice after graduation, joining the Law Offices of Peter J. Cyr as an associate in 2010. There he handled trial preparation and client counseling in a range of criminal matters.

In 2015 he launched his own practice, establishing the Law Offices of Dylan Boyd and taking on the responsibilities of lawyer and manager. Running a small firm required him to shift between legal work and the business of law. He continued to represent clients at arraignments, hearings and trials while overseeing case intake, billing and staff coordination.

Boyd maintains admission to the Maine bar and to federal practice in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine. He is also admitted to appear before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Those credentials have allowed him to follow cases from initial charging decisions through federal litigation and appeals.

His position on the board of directors of the Maine Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers reflects his ties to the state’s defender community. He holds other professional memberships as well. In those roles he participates in discussions about procedure, training and access to resources for defense counsel across Maine.

Clients and fellow lawyers describe him as straightforward in court. He prepares written motions and presents oral arguments. He handles plea negotiations and trials, and he represents clients in post-conviction matters when necessary. Courtroom work and appellate briefing compose much of his daily practice.

Over time he has balanced trial work with the administrative demands of a solo firm. He manages a caseload that includes misdemeanor and felony matters in state court and federal charges in the District of Maine, as well as appeals to the First Circuit. He continues to practice from the Law Offices of Dylan Boyd, concentrating on criminal defense in state and federal courts.
