About David R.
David R. Lundgren began his path to the law in Minnesota. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Saint Thomas in 2004. He went on to complete his Juris Doctor at William Mitchell College of Law in 2012, where his studies included criminal law and injury law. Those classroom years set the stage for a courtroom-centered practice.
After law school, Lundgren gained admission to the Minnesota bar in 2012 and expanded his practice to federal courts. He is admitted to practice in Minnesota, before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Over the years he has taken cases into state trial courts, federal district court, and appellate proceedings.
He is a partner at Lundgren & Johnson, PSC. In that role he handles litigation and courtroom work. Colleagues describe him as deliberate in preparation and direct in court. He has represented clients in criminal matters at both the state and federal level and has argued on appeal. He also draws on his law school coursework in injury law when matters touch on civil claims tied to criminal cases.
Lundgren maintains active ties to professional groups in the Twin Cities legal community. He has been a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association and the Hennepin County Bar Association since 2012. Since 2016 he has been a member of the Minnesota Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Ramsey County Bar Association. These memberships position him among other attorneys who focus on trial work and criminal defense in the region.
Outside the courtroom he spends time preparing briefs and mapping appellate strategies. He is comfortable moving between trial work and the appeals process because he is admitted across multiple levels of the federal and state systems. Clients tend to see him as practical and straightforward in his explanations, preferring clear options over legal jargon.
Today Lundgren practices from Lundgren & Johnson, PSC, representing clients in criminal cases in Minnesota and in federal courts, and handling related appeals in the Eighth Circuit and higher courts.
