About David M.
David M. Serafin built his legal foundation in the Midwest and then returned to school to deepen his tax knowledge. He earned a B.A. from Albion College and a J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law, both in 1996. A decade later he completed an LL.M. in Taxation at the University of Denver in 2006, adding a specialized credential to his general practice training.
He moved into public service early in his career. In 2002 he served as an assistant county lawyer for Jefferson County, Colorado, handling municipal and county-level legal matters. That experience gave him courtroom exposure and practical insight into local government operations. By 2007 he was handling tax and estate matters at DCBA Law, PLLC, and a year later he established the Law Office of David M. Serafin, where he served as managing lawyer.
Serafin’s practice spans several jurisdictions. He is admitted in Colorado and Michigan and holds credentials to appear in the District of Columbia, the United States Tax Court and the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Colorado. Those admissions reflect work that crosses state lines and federal forums. His background combines public-sector work, small-firm practice and courtroom appearances in both tax and bankruptcy contexts.
The thread that runs through his work is tax and estate planning. He has advised individuals and small businesses on tax matters and drafted planning documents intended to address tax consequences and property transitions. He also has represented clients in bankruptcy proceedings and tax litigation, relying on his LL.M. training when disputes reach the U.S. Tax Court. His time as an assistant county lawyer contributes a practical perspective on regulatory and municipal issues that can touch property and estate cases.
Outside of casework he maintains memberships in a number of professional organizations. He is a member of the Colorado State Bar, the Denver Bar Association and the Colorado Bar Association. He also participates in the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, a local business network that connects legal practice to community and commerce trends.
Serafin continued to manage his own practice after 2008, handling tax, estate planning and related litigation matters and representing clients in federal tax and bankruptcy courts. He currently focuses his practice on tax and estate planning, tax litigation and bankruptcy representation.
