About David Alan

David Alan Ody trained first as a student of literature and law. He earned a B.A. in English from Franklin & Marshall College in 1970 and completed his Juris Doctor at Dickinson College in 1973. Those two degrees set the stage for a career that has moved between public service and private practice.

He began his legal career in state government. In 1973 he joined the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry as an Assistant Lawyer General. Four years later he moved into the Pennsylvania Consumer Advocate’s Office, a role that placed him on the front lines of disputes involving consumers and utilities. By 1979 he entered private practice as a partner at Henry, Corcelius, Gates, Gill & Ody. He later helped found Ody & Wilson, P.C., becoming a partner there in 2006. Through those moves he has remained licensed in Pennsylvania.

Those early public roles shaped his outlook as a lawyer. Time spent at the Department of Labor & Industry exposed him to regulatory frameworks and administrative proceedings. His service as Pennsylvania Consumer Advocate involved representation and advocacy on behalf of utility customers and consumers. When he shifted to private practice, he brought that background into civil litigation and dispute resolution, often dealing with matters that touch on state regulation and consumer protection.

Colleagues and court files reflect steady involvement in the local bar. He holds memberships in the Pennsylvania State Bar, the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Huntingdon Bar Association. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Association for Justice and the American Association for Justice. Those affiliations have kept him connected to developments in professional rules, trial practice and public policy.

Over the decades Ody has balanced courtroom work with counseling clients on regulatory matters. His practice history shows a lawyer who moves between advocacy on behalf of individuals and advisory work for clients navigating state agencies. He has worked in both larger firm settings and a smaller firm structure, adapting his role as partner to meet different case loads and client needs.

He remains based at Ody & Wilson, P.C., in Pennsylvania, where he continues to handle matters that draw on his experience in consumer advocacy, regulatory law and civil litigation. His current practice centers on consumer and civil matters influenced by state regulatory frameworks.
