About Daniel K
Daniel K Hilbert took an indirect route to law. He studied philosophy at Westminster College, earning his degree in 2003. He then moved on to Florida Coastal School of Law and completed his J.D. in 2006. The combination of a liberal arts background and legal training shapes how he approaches the cases he handles.
He began his legal career the same year he finished law school. In 2006 he worked as an Assistant State Lawyer in the State Lawyer’s Office. That early experience put him in court and in front of judges. It also provided a grounding in trial procedure and state-level practice that would inform his later work.
By 2010 he was practicing at the Alexander Law Office. He handled a range of matters there under the title of Lawyer. Four years later he joined Canan Law as an associate. The move to Canan Law marked a steady progression from government work to private practice. He remains connected to the firm in his current role.
Hilbert has been active in local and state bar organizations for more than a decade. He holds membership in the Putnam County Bar Association and the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, where his membership dates to 2016. Since 2015 he has also been involved with the Florida Bar’s Unlicensed Practice of Law entities. His bar work includes board involvement that deals with the boundaries of legal practice and public protection.
Locally, Hilbert has taken on leadership roles in the St. Johns County Bar Association. Records show he served as president in 2010 and has held the vice president post since 2013. Those positions have put him in the middle of the county’s professional discussions and planning for bar activities.
Colleagues describe him as steady in court and methodical in preparation. He blends courtroom experience from his state office days with years in private practice. He represents clients on criminal matters and handles issues tied to unlicensed practice questions, reflecting his bar board work. He also maintains ties to the local legal community through his county bar memberships.
He currently practices at Canan Law, where he handles criminal defense and matters related to the unlicensed practice of law.
