About Colin
Colin Bonus earned his law degree from the University of Dayton School of Law after completing a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Dayton. He entered practice at a time when courtroom experience often began at small firms and under the tutelage of established trial lawyers. He built a foundation in litigation early and carried that through decades of practice.
His early years in the profession were spent at firms that concentrated on trial work. In 1984 he worked at Wolf Helies & Duggan. By 1991 he had moved to the Law Offices of Mauro Casci, and in 1995 he joined the Law Offices of Steven Gertler. Those positions exposed him to a steady docket of criminal and motor-vehicle matters and helped shape the practical skills he would rely on throughout his career.
In 1999 Bonus began working at the Law Offices of Jonathan F. Marshall. He later became a partner in 2015 at Marshall, Bonus, Proetta & Oliver, a role that reflected a shift into firm leadership and collaborative case handling. His partnership period included supervising cases and mentoring younger lawyers while maintaining an active trial schedule. He has continued his association with the Law Offices of Jonathan F. Marshall in subsequent years.
Bonus is licensed to practice in New Jersey. He has pursued specialized training relevant to impaired-driving cases. He holds an Instructor Certification in Field Sobriety Testing from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and an Alcotest Certification from Draeger Laboratories. Those credentials indicate direct involvement in the technical and evidentiary aspects of sobriety testing and breath-analysis equipment. He has also been involved in professional organizations that address trial practice and plaintiff-side litigation, including the Monmouth Bar Association, the American Association for Justice and the New Jersey Bar Association. He was a member of the National College of DUI Defense from 2013 to 2016.
Colin Bonus’s career shows a steady progression from associate roles at small firms to partnership and ongoing practice at an established local office. He has combined courtroom work with instruction and technical certification in DUI-related testing. He currently practices at the Law Offices of Jonathan F. Marshall, handling DUI and criminal defense matters.
