About Chris

Chris Attig builds a career at the intersection of veterans law and appellate work. He mixes courtroom practice with organizational leadership. Colleagues describe him as methodical. He is active in filing appeals, advising on veterans benefits cases, and working inside veteran advocacy circles.

He began his academic path studying history at the University of Scranton, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts. He then pursued legal studies abroad and at home. In 2001 he attended the University of Marmara Law School, studying international labor law. The following year he completed coursework in international litigation and foreign investment law at the University of Texas at Austin. He earned his J.D. from South Texas College of Law in 2003.

Early in his career he turned toward matters that touch federal courts and veterans’ claims. Over time he accumulated admissions to a range of tribunals, including the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, the Federal Circuit, the U.S. Supreme Court and the Fifth Circuit, as well as state bars. He is an accredited VA lawyer through the Department of Veterans Affairs, a credential that allows him to represent veterans in benefit disputes.

Attig has also taken on volunteer leadership roles inside professional organizations. He served on the board of directors of the National Organization of Veterans’ Advocates beginning in 2015, then chaired NOVA’s Amicus Committee in 2017. He is a member of the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims Bar Association and has been listed there since 2017. He also co-chairs Texas Lawyers for Texas Veterans, a role he has held since 2011, and has been active in the Texas Trial Lawyers Association since 2009. Those roles involve coordinating brief-writing, organizing educational programs, and helping lawyers prepare appeals.

His practice experience centers on appeals and veterans benefits litigation. He brings cases to the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims and, where necessary, to the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. He handles procedural and substantive issues that arise in post-decision review, and he prepares appellate briefs and motions. He also works with other veterans’ advocates on amicus filings and policy matters that affect veterans’ access to benefits.

He maintains an active litigation and appellate practice and continues to represent veterans in claims and appeals before federal and veterans’ courts.
