About Bryan A.

Bryan A. Kohm trained as a thinker first and a lawyer second. He earned a B.A. in philosophy from Hamilton College in 2001, then turned to the law at Santa Clara University School of Law, where he received his J.D. in 2004. His academic path combined abstract reasoning and practical problem solving, a pairing that shows up in his courtroom work.

After law school, Kohm entered private practice and served as an associate at Fenwick & West LLP. There he worked on matters that required navigating both state and federal procedures. His time at the firm gave him experience handling complex filings and interlocutory issues under tight deadlines. He practiced in an environment that placed a premium on precision and clear legal writing.

Kohm is admitted to practice in California and holds memberships that allow him to appear in a wide range of federal forums. His admissions include the U.S. District Courts in the Central, Eastern, Northern and Southern Districts of California; the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas; the Federal Circuit; and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is an active member of the State Bar of California. Those credentials have enabled him to take part in matters that move between trial and appellate stages.

His undergraduate training in philosophy informs his approach to legal questions. He tends to break problems down into their component parts and to test arguments at their weakest points. That analytical habit is evident in briefs and court submissions that aim to anticipate opposing theory and respond to it directly. Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing records and careful in crafting legal argument.

Kohm’s career reflects a steady focus on litigation practice in the courts where he is admitted. He has handled procedural and substantive issues across multiple federal districts and at the circuit and Supreme Court levels. He maintains an active membership in the State Bar of California and continues to practice law in California. He currently focuses his practice on litigation in California state and federal courts.
