About Bret
Bret Nason began his professional journey in music before turning to law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Luther College in 1983 and later attended William Mitchell College of Law, receiving his J.D. in 2005. The gap between degrees marks a deliberate change in course; he returned to school in his later thirties to pursue a legal career.
Nason established himself in bankruptcy and insolvency practice in Wisconsin. Shortly after law school he moved into private practice. In 2008 he became a partner at Bromley & Nason, a role that placed him squarely in the day-to-day practice of creditor and debtor matters. Two years later he opened his own firm, operating under the name Bret Nason, Lawyer at Law, where he continued to handle bankruptcy cases and related disputes.
Over the years Nason has affiliated with several professional groups tied to bankruptcy practice. He joined the Bankruptcy, Insolvency & Creditors Rights Section of the State Bar of Wisconsin in 2008. That same year he became a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute. He added the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers in 2009 and joined the Western District Bankruptcy Bar Association in 2012. These memberships reflect ongoing involvement in the professional community and access to resources and peer networks in the bankruptcy field.
His work has centered on the practical aspects of consumer and commercial bankruptcy. Nason’s caseload has included Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 matters, creditor response work and adversary proceedings. He has handled contested hearings and negotiated chapter plan issues. The record shows steady practice rather than frequent shifts in focus; his career narrative is one of building a small practice that manages a range of bankruptcy-related legal tasks.
Nason practices in Wisconsin courts and participates in local bankruptcy bar activities. He moved from partnership in a regional firm to solo practice, a path that allowed him to keep direct client contact and control over case strategy. Colleagues and clients describe him as businesslike in court and methodical in preparation.
He maintains memberships in national and regional bankruptcy organizations and continues to practice bankruptcy law in Wisconsin. He currently practices consumer bankruptcy, creditor-debtor litigation and related bankruptcy matters in Wisconsin.
