About Michael P

Michael P Richman began an academic path that mixed liberal arts, international study and law. He earned a B.A. in political science and history from Vassar College in 1975, spent a year on the General Course at the London School of Economics in 1973, and completed his J.D. at Columbia Law School in 1979. Those formative years combined classroom study in the United States and abroad, and set the stage for a legal career that spans decades.

After Columbia, Richman entered the practice of law and built a long-standing presence in two state bars. He is admitted to practice in New York and in Wisconsin. Over the years he has worked under the professional and ethical obligations that come with carrying licenses in multiple states. The record of his education and admissions points to a lawyer who has maintained an interstate practice through changing legal and regulatory landscapes.

His career runs across a period of considerable change in the legal profession. Technology, evolving case law and shifting client expectations have reshaped how lawyers work since the late 1970s. Richman’s timeline places him among attorneys who began practice before those changes took hold and who adapted as they went. That experience informs a pragmatic approach to problem solving and case management.

Columbia Law School supplied the legal training. Vassar provided a grounding in political science and history. The London School of Economics added an international perspective for a year of study. Taken together, those academic experiences have given Richman a broad view of legal issues and their context. He has applied that perspective while practicing under the rules and standards of both New York and Wisconsin bars.

He is currently associated with Steinhilber Swanson LLP. At that firm he continues an active practice that reflects his cross-jurisdictional admissions. Clients and colleagues see a lawyer whose career spans classroom study at notable institutions and long-term legal practice in two states. He remains based in the firm’s office and continues to maintain his bar memberships.

Richman’s current practice at Steinhilber Swanson LLP focuses on representing clients in matters arising in New York and Wisconsin.
