About Brannen

Brannen Payne earned a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from the University of Central Arkansas in 2006 and a J.D. from the University of Arkansas School of Law in 2012. He arrived at the practice of law after a course of study that emphasized analysis and argument. Law school years gave him the legal foundation he would call on in courtrooms across Arkansas.

He began his legal work in 2014 as a lawyer and law clerk at Clark Law Office, PLLC. That early period included research, drafting and client work that led to trial assignments. In 2016 he moved into public defense, serving as a deputy public defender in Washington County. The public defender role put him in front of juries and judges on criminal matters and required fast case assessment and courtroom preparation.

Also in 2016 he worked as a trial lawyer at Norwood & Norwood, P.A., where he handled a range of contested hearings and bench trials. Those years deepened his litigation skills. He learned to frame evidence, question witnesses and argue motions under time pressure.

By 2018 he opened Payne Law Office, PLLC, where he serves as managing partner and trial lawyer. At his own firm he combines case management with hands-on trial work. He oversees litigation strategy and remains the primary trial advocate for clients who take cases to court.

His practice is backed by certifications tied to impaired driving enforcement. He is an SFST Certified Instructor and an SFST Certified practitioner through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and he holds ARIDE certification in Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement. Those credentials reflect training in standardized field sobriety testing and related evidentiary procedures.

Professional associations have been part of his career since 2016. He is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Arkansas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Washington County Bar Association. Memberships give him access to continuing legal education and peer resources that feed into trial preparation.

Payne’s work history shows a steady movement from clerkship and public defense to private practice and firm leadership. He handles criminal defense matters and regularly represents clients in DWI cases. He currently practices DWI defense.
