About Barry
Barry Rowell studied psychology at Longwood University before turning to law. He earned a J.D. from Regent University School of Law and later moved into positions that bridged corporate compliance and litigation. His academic background in psychology informs a practical approach to problem solving and client counseling.
Rowell’s first notable role on his résumé was in legal compliance at Lowe’s Companies, Inc., beginning in 1995. That position placed him inside a large corporate legal department during years of organizational change. He handled compliance matters and worked alongside human resources professionals, gaining experience that would shape much of his later practice.
In 2006 he became a partner at Valverde & Rowell, PC. That move marked a shift from in-house work to private practice, where he took on a broader range of matters. Around that time he also joined the American Trial Lawyers Association, signaling an interest in litigation and courtroom work. He has been a member of the American Bar Association since 2004.
Rowell’s professional affiliations extend into the human resources community. He has been a member of the Society for Human Resource Management since 2007 and has served as a director of the Hampton Roads Society for Human Resource Management since that same year. Those roles have kept him linked to HR professionals and workplace issues across the region.
In 2019 he became a partner at Klein Rowell & Shall PLLC. His practice operates out of that firm, where he continues to draw on his compliance background and litigation experience. He is licensed to practice in Virginia and is admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Colleagues describe him as someone who moves easily between corporate settings and courtroom work, relying on both regulatory understanding and practical litigation skills.
