About Ashlee
Ashlee Mathis graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a B.A. in political science in 2012. She continued her legal studies at the University of Tennessee College of Law and earned her J.D. in 2015. Those years in Knoxville shaped her approach to practice. They also anchored the relationships she maintains in the local legal community.
She began working at The Isaacs Law Office while still in law school. In 2014 she served as a law clerk there, handling research, drafting pleadings, and assisting attorneys in courtroom preparation. The next year she joined the firm as an associate. That move marked her transition from student to practicing attorney and set the course for her early career.
Mathis is authorized to appear in Tennessee courts and has credentials permitting practice before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Her memberships include the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Knoxville Bar Association, and the Tennessee Bar Association. She has maintained those affiliations since 2015.
Colleagues describe her work as steady and methodical. She has taken on the kinds of tasks younger lawyers often handle: drafting motions, preparing witnesses, and managing case files. That day-to-day work builds familiarity with courtroom procedure and the tactical choices defense attorneys make. It also gives her frequent exposure to both state and federal dockets.
Her professional path is rooted in the same office where she started as a clerk. Remaining at The Isaacs Law Office allowed her to deepen institutional knowledge and continue working with a familiar team. She balances client meetings and court appearances, and she spends substantial time on case preparation. The practice leans on procedural know-how and an understanding of evidentiary rules.
Outside court, Mathis maintains active ties to the local bar. She participates in association events and attends continuing legal education programs. Those activities keep her current on changes in criminal law and practice standards. She currently practices at The Isaacs Law Office, handling criminal defense matters in Tennessee and in federal courts while maintaining memberships in state and local bar organizations.
