About Asher

Asher Hawkins began his professional life in journalism before turning to law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania in 2004 and later returned to school for a J.D. from New York Law School, graduating in 2014. The two careers have left him comfortable in the courtroom and the newsroom alike.

His résumé shows steady movement from reporting to appellate work and private practice. Early roles include reporting positions at The Legal Intelligencer in 2003, staff writing at Forbes in 2007, and an associate editor and reporter role at ALM in 2010. Those years sharpened his writing and research, skills that he carried into legal training and practice.

In 2014 he served as an appellate court lawyer at the New York Appellate Division, Third Department. That post involved briefing and research typical of appellate chambers work. The experience provided direct exposure to appellate procedure and the way written argument carries weight in higher courts.

He joined FRANK LLP as an associate in 2015. At the firm he worked on matters that moved through both trial and appellate levels in state and federal court. The record shows him admitted to practice in New York and to the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, which positions him to handle litigation spanning municipal and federal forums.

Hawkins maintains memberships in the New York City Bar Association and the New York State Bar. Those ties keep him in dialogue with colleagues across practice areas and with developments in court rules and professional standards. Colleagues describe him as methodical in his legal writing and attentive in courtroom preparation.

His background in journalism informs his approach to case narrative and appellate briefs. He tends to emphasize clear, concise drafting and careful citation. In court settings he focuses on presenting arguments that rely on precedent and statutory text rather than rhetorical flourish.

He continues to practice at Frank LLP, where his work centers on litigation and appellate matters in New York state and federal courts. He handles both trial-level litigation and the briefs and arguments that follow when cases move on appeal.
