About Andy
Andy Brownstein came to law after an early run in finance. He earned a B.A. in economics and American government from the University of Virginia in 1988, then stayed at UVA for his J.D., which he completed in 1994. That mix of liberal arts, economics and law set the tone for a career that crosses legal practice, corporate leadership and teaching.
His first professional years were in the markets. He worked as an analyst at Drexel Burnham & Lambert and then at Financo. Those roles gave him a grounding in deal work and financial analysis that would shape later roles in corporate development and real estate services. After law school he joined McGuireWoods as an associate in 1994, moving into in-house and executive roles in the years that followed.
Brownstein spent much of the 2000s in senior management at LandAmerica Financial Group, where he rose to senior vice president for international services and commercial real estate services. He handled corporate development and the operational side of large-scale commercial real estate ventures. In 2009 he moved to Global Realty Services Group, where he held multiple executive titles: chief financial officer, general counsel and later president of GRS Title Services. Those positions combined legal oversight with business management at a company operating across title, settlement and related services.
Between executive jobs and law practice, Brownstein also worked at Colonnade Capital as a vice president in 1997. That role, and his earlier analyst work, reinforced a transactional perspective. He has experience on both the deal side and the regulatory side of commercial real estate and title operations. He has led legal teams, overseen compliance programs and managed financial reporting in complex corporate environments.
In 2019 Brownstein returned to private practice as a partner at GreeneHurlocker. He took up a teaching role in 2022 as an adjunct professor at the University of Richmond School of Law, bringing real-world business law experience into the classroom. His background makes him comfortable in academic and boardroom settings alike.
Brownstein is licensed in Virginia and draws on three decades of combined legal and corporate experience. He advises clients on commercial real estate transactions, title and settlement issues, corporate governance and related transactional work. He currently practices as a partner at GreeneHurlocker, where his work centers on commercial real estate and corporate transactional matters.
