About Andrew B.
Andrew B. Gordon trained first as an accountant and then moved into law. He earned a B.S. in accounting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2005, returned there for an M.A. in accounting in 2008, and completed a J.D. at the Illinois Institute of Technology’s Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2009. That mix of accounting and legal education has shaped the arc of his career.
He spent an early post-law school year clerking for the Internal Revenue Service in 2011. The experience gave him a close-up view of federal tax administration and enforcement. A year later he founded Gordon Law Group and took the title of president. He has maintained that role while handling client work that draws on both his accounting background and legal training. He is also a Certified Public Accountant under the Illinois Board of Examiners.
Gordon has combined private practice with teaching. In 2020 he served as an adjunct professor at Chicago-Kent College of Law, returning to the school where he earned his law degree. The course load and classroom work added an academic dimension to his practice. He is admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court, and he keeps professional ties through bar and civic memberships.
Those memberships are broad and local. He has been a member of the Chicago Bar Association since 2012 and holds membership in the Illinois State Bar Association. Since 2013 he has served as general counsel to the Lake Zurich Chamber of Commerce. He also sits on the board of the West Loop Community Organization. These roles reflect a pattern of steady involvement in civic and bar activities alongside private practice.
Clients and colleagues describe his work as technical and detail-oriented. He handles matters that require both tax law knowledge and accounting precision — tax controversies, compliance questions and advisory work that touches on financial reporting and tax planning. He tends to take cases that are practical in scope and that require examination of numbers as well as statutes.
Gordon continues to run Gordon Law Group and to teach periodically. He manages client matters that intersect tax and accounting, and he provides legal counsel to community organizations and local businesses. He handles tax and accounting matters and serves as general counsel to local organizations.
