About Amber R.
Amber R. Cohen trained first as an undergraduate at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and returned to the Northeast to earn her law degree from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 2008. She moved into practice at a moment when courts and communities were wrestling with changing criminal justice issues and family-law pressures. Her academic path combined a liberal arts background with a professional legal curriculum, and that combination has shaped the variety of matters she accepts.
Early in her professional life Cohen joined local and state bar groups. She became a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Plymouth County Bar Association in 2008. In 2009 she took on board duties with the Bristol County Bar Association. The following years saw continued involvement in civic and professional organizations: she joined the Boston Bar Association in 2013 and the Federal Bar Association in 2014. Her membership activity reflects steady engagement in the bar community and regular participation in local legal circles.
Cohen has also taken on leadership roles inside those organizations. Since 2015 she has served as Vice President of the Plymouth District Bar Association. She has acted as the Plymouth County Coordinator for Lawyers Representing Children since 2013, a role that places her in direct contact with courts handling juvenile and child-centered cases. She is a member of the National College of DUI Defense, joining that organization in 2015.
On the court side, Cohen is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and before the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. She is also admitted to appear before the U.S. Supreme Court. Those admissions extend her practice beyond state trial work and allow her to address appeals and federal filings when cases require it.
Cohen works from a Plymouth office and maintains a practice through Cohen Cleary, P.C. The firm listing and office location anchor her geographically in southeastern Massachusetts while giving her the platform to handle matters that cross county lines. Her case work has included representation in criminal matters, including driving-under-the-influence cases, as well as court appointments and advocacy involving children in family and juvenile proceedings.
Colleagues and associates see Cohen as an attorney who balances courtroom work with organizational leadership. She continues to participate in bar activities and to represent clients in both trial and appellate settings. Her current practice focuses on criminal defense, DUI matters, and representation of children in court-appointed roles.
