About Murat
Murat Erkan built his legal foundation in the Northeast. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in criminology from Drew University in 1994, then went on to receive his Juris Doctor from the University of Richmond School of Law in 1997. Those years of study set the direction of a career rooted in criminal law.
After law school, Erkan began practicing in Massachusetts. Over time he became associated with Erkan & Sullivan, PC, where he continues to work. He is a familiar presence in state courtrooms and administrative proceedings, representing clients in matters that range from routine hearings to contested trials. His day-to-day work revolves around criminal defense and related procedural issues.
Erkan participates in professional organizations that bring together defense lawyers and criminal justice practitioners. He holds membership in the Criminal Justice Council of the Massachusetts Bar Association and belongs to the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Those affiliations keep him plugged into developments in state criminal practice and provide regular contact with colleagues who handle similar work.
Colleagues and clients encounter an attorney who attends to the details of cases. He prepares motions, handles evidentiary disputes, and appears at arraignments, pretrial conferences, and trials. He also engages in plea negotiations when they serve a client’s interests. The work requires a steady command of Massachusetts criminal procedure and evidence rules, and Erkan has built a practice around those daily demands.
Outside of active litigation, he monitors legislative and regulatory changes that affect criminal practice in the state. That includes new developments in sentencing law and court procedures. He contributes to discussions at bar association meetings and participates in panels and working groups when invited. Through those channels he stays current on shifts that affect how defense counsel approach cases.
Today Erkan continues to practice at Erkan & Sullivan, PC in Massachusetts. He represents individuals charged with criminal offenses and handles related matters in state courts and administrative forums. His current practice is concentrated on criminal defense in Massachusetts.
