About William Tyler

William Tyler Melling built his pathway to law on two distinct interests: economics and music. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with a minor in Music Performance from Southern Utah University in 2012. Three years later he completed a Juris Doctor at the University of Iowa in 2015, then turned quickly to practice and teaching in his home region.

Early in his professional life Melling split time between the classroom and private practice. In 2015 he served as an adjunct instructor at Southern Utah University, returning to the campus that shaped his undergraduate years to teach law-related material to undergraduates. That same year he launched Melling Estate Planning Solutions, an effort aimed at giving individuals practical tools for organizing their affairs and planning for the future.

Those twin strands — public instruction and private practice — fed into the office he now operates. Melling is associated with Melling Law, P.C., through which he handles client matters in Utah. His work has centered on the transactional side of law, concentrating on estate planning and the administration of estates. He has advised clients on wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and the procedures that follow a death or incapacity.

Outside his legal work he has remained active in local organizations. Since 2016 he has served on the board of the Cedar City Area Chamber of Commerce, participating in civic discussions about business and community development. He also joined the board of the Orchestra of Southern Utah in 2016, reflecting an ongoing interest in the performing arts that dates back to his undergraduate music study. Those roles place him at the intersection of the region’s economic and cultural conversations.

Melling’s approach combines practical document drafting with client education. He aims to make legal options understandable and to prepare documents that reflect clients’ stated wishes. His background in economics informs his attention to financial implications, while his teaching experience shapes how he explains legal concepts. He currently handles estate planning, probate, and related counseling for clients in Utah.
