About William

William Spade earned his law degree from The University of Chicago Law School, receiving a J.D. in 1988. He entered a demanding academic environment and completed one of the country's more rigorous programs at a time when law schools were expanding their clinical offerings and trial training. That education provided a foundation in legal analysis and courtroom technique that informed his later work.

By 1995 Spade was serving as an assistant district lawyer in Philadelphia. In that role he handled courtroom matters and participated in the daily responsibilities of a prosecutor's office. The post required frequent appearances in trial courts, drafting charging documents and dealing with the procedural demands of criminal practice. It was a practical apprenticeship in litigation and public service.

His professional qualifications include admission in Pennsylvania and before the 3rd Circuit. Those credentials allow him to appear in state courts across Pennsylvania and in the federal appellate court that covers the region. Admission to the 3rd Circuit indicates experience with appellate procedure and the written advocacy it requires.

Over the years he has balanced courtroom work and appellate advocacy. His background as an assistant district lawyer gave him early exposure to trial strategy. That experience informs how he approaches pleadings, motion practice and oral argument. Colleagues describe him as steady in court and methodical in preparing records for appeals.

Spade's career reflects the arc of a lawyer who moved from public-sector litigation into broader practice across state and federal venues. He has handled matters that required coordination with prosecutors, defense counsel and judges. Those interactions underscore an ability to manage adversarial proceedings and the document-intensive work that appellate courts demand.

Outside the courtroom he has maintained connections to legal education through guest lectures and informal mentoring of younger attorneys. He speaks plainly about procedure and evidence, and he spends time helping newer lawyers navigate filing deadlines and briefing requirements. That work has been part of his professional life for many years.

As of 2026 he continues to practice in Pennsylvania and remains admitted before the 3rd Circuit. His work combines trial experience from his years in Philadelphia and appellate work permitted by his federal admission. He currently concentrates his practice on litigation and appellate matters in state and federal courts.
