About Vincent
Vincent Rivera grew up interested in how people think and make choices. He studied psychology at the University of Kansas and later earned a law degree from Washburn University School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 2009. His academic path combined an understanding of human behavior with legal training, a pairing he has carried into courtroom work.
Rivera began his legal career at the State of Kansas Public Defender Office in 2009. He served as an assistant public defender, representing clients in often difficult and high-pressure settings. That early public service work gave him frequent courtroom exposure and steady trial experience. It also shaped his approach to case preparation and client communication.
In 2014 he opened Rivera Law. The firm grew out of the practical demands Rivera had seen as a public defender and his interest in handling criminal matters at both the state and federal levels. He practices in Kansas and is admitted to federal courts in both Kansas and Missouri. Those credentials allow him to take cases that cross state and federal lines.
Rivera's professional memberships include the Kansas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Federal Bar of Kansas, and he is listed with the Federal Bar Western District of Missouri. He remains active in bar activities and networking within those organizations, attending CLEs and court-related events. He also keeps ties to local legal communities that handle criminal justice issues.
Colleagues describe Rivera as direct in court and thorough in preparation. He tends to take on cases that require careful factual investigation and frequent contact with clients. Trials and motions work account for a substantial portion of his docket. He handles arraignments, plea negotiations, evidentiary hearings, and bench and jury trials when cases proceed that far.
Outside the courthouse, Rivera manages the day-to-day operations of Rivera Law, LLC. Running a small firm means balancing client work with administrative responsibilities. He oversees case strategy, client intake, and courtroom appearances. The office represents individuals charged with a range of offenses and responds to matters in state and federal systems.
Rivera continues to practice criminal defense, taking cases in Kansas and in federal court when matters require it. His current practice centers on trial representation and federal litigation arising from criminal charges.
