About Michael

Michael Duma built his path to the law through study and early courtroom work. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Arizona State University in 2008 and completed his J.D. at Washburn University School of Law in 2011. Those years set the groundwork for a career that moved quickly from public service into private practice.

After law school he joined the Wyandotte County District Lawyer's Office as an assistant district lawyer in 2011. The job put him on trial dockets and into daily contact with prosecutors, judges and clients. That frontline experience shaped how he approaches case preparation and courtroom strategy.

In 2013 he became a partner at Duma Law Offices. He has remained there since, handling matters that reflect his background in criminal law and courtroom work. He is licensed to practice in Missouri and Kansas and is a notary public for the State of Kansas.

Duma’s professional memberships underscore his practical orientation. He is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Kansas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He belongs to the Kansas Bar Association, the Johnson County Bar Association and the Wyandotte County Bar Association. He also participates in the Johnson County Bar Association Family Law Inn of Court and serves as counsel to the Wyandotte County Drug Court. Those affiliations place him in regular conversation with peers about trial practice, defense strategy and problem-solving approaches for clients in and out of court.

Colleagues describe him as someone who learned the mechanics of courtroom work early and then applied those lessons to private practice. He moved quickly from an assistant role in a county prosecutor’s office into a leadership position at his own firm. The move gave him hands-on responsibility for case management, client intake and litigation planning.

Outside of litigation he maintains routine professional obligations, including his notary commission in Kansas. He appears in local courtrooms and at drug court sessions, and he engages with bar groups that focus on criminal defense and family law.

He continues to practice at Duma Law Offices, handling criminal defense, drug-court matters and family law issues.
