Vincent John LaBarbera Jr. is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1980. His license is currently in active status. Mr. LaBarbera is a partner at the Law Offices of Vincent J. LaBarbera, Jr., a criminal defense firm located in Newport Beach, California. He has been practicing law for over 45 years, serving clients throughout Southern California and beyond.
Mr. LaBarbera earned his Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern University School of Law in 1980. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at St. Mary's College of California, graduating magna cum laude in 1977 with a double major in Government and Philosophy. During his time at Southwestern, he worked with Lemaire, Faunce & Katznelson in Los Angeles, focusing on public sector labor law, and volunteered for the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF). He also served as a legal extern for Justice James Koby at the California State Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District, Division Three.
Mr. LaBarbera concentrates his practice in criminal defense, representing clients in both federal and state courts. His experience encompasses a wide range of cases, including white-collar crimes, telemarketing fraud, special circumstances murder, gang-related offenses, three-strikes cases, assault, embezzlement, domestic violence, narcotics offenses, and driving under the influence. He has litigated over 4,500 cases and has argued more than 200 trials and appeals. His practice involves all stages of litigation, from initial case evaluation and discovery to mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings.
Throughout his career, Mr. LaBarbera has handled cases in various courts, including the United States District Courts for the Southern and Central Districts of California, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He has also represented clients in state courts across California and in other states, including Montana, Maryland, Michigan, Kentucky, Texas, Florida, Nevada, and Arizona. Prior to founding his own firm, he was a partner at La Barbera & Myers from 1984 to 2004.
Mr. LaBarbera is an active member of several professional organizations, including the California State Bar, the Orange County Bar Association, the South Orange County Bar Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, and the California Attorneys for Criminal Justice. He has been recognized with Martindale-Hubbell's highest A.V. rating, named a Super Lawyer in 2015 and 2016, and featured in Strathmore's Who's Who from 2004 through 2009. He was also named Strathmore's Professional Trial Lawyer of the Year in 2008. Mr. LaBarbera is fluent in English and Farsi, allowing him to serve a diverse clientele effectively.
