About Tyler J.
Tyler J. Douglas built his academic foundation around tax law and history. He earned a B.A. in History from Loyola University New Orleans in 2006, followed by a J.D. in Taxation from Loyola in 2011. He later completed an LL.M. in Tax Law at the University of Alabama School of Law in 2014. Those credentials form the backbone of a career that has stayed close to the technical side of tax and trust matters.
He began his legal practice in New Orleans. In 2011 he joined Lowe, Stein, Hoffman, Allweiss & Hauver L.L.P. There he has worked on matters that draw on his graduate training and his interest in the intersection of tax and planning. He is admitted to practice in Louisiana and in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, and he handles matters that require familiarity with both state and federal tax rules.
Douglas’s professional life is threaded through a number of bar and civic organizations. He serves on the Leadership Committee of LAMBDA Legal New Orleans and is the Programming Coordinator for the Louisiana Bar Association Tax Section. He is a member of the New Orleans Estate Planning Council, the American Bar Association, the Louisiana Bar Association and the New Orleans Bar Association. He also holds membership in the AP Turead Inn of Court, a group that brings together judges and lawyers to discuss ethics and practice. Outside the legal associations, he has been on the board of Emerging Philanthropists of New Orleans since 2013.
Colleagues describe his work as methodical. He spends time on complex tax questions, drafting plans and opinions that require close attention to statutory detail and administrative guidance. That same attention guides estate planning work, where drafting choices can have long-term consequences for families and organizations. He has handled files that touch on probate, trusts and federal tax filings in the district court context.
Douglas balances his technical practice with participation in programming and community groups. His roles in the Tax Section and local nonprofit boards reflect an interest in education and civic life as much as in client service. He regularly takes part in planning events and panels aimed at both lawyers and the broader community.
He practices at Lowe, Stein, Hoffman, Allweiss & Hauver L.L.P. and works on tax and estate planning matters.
