About Tychanika Jakara
Tychanika Jakara Kimbrough earned her J.D. from Baylor Law School in 2018 after completing a Bachelor of Public Administration and International Studies at Texas State University in 2015. Her academic path combined legal training and public administration, a blend that informed her early work in government and community-oriented roles.
Her first legal experiences were diverse and hands-on. In 2017 she served as a judicial intern for Justice Alvarez at the Fourth Court of Appeals and worked under the Honorable Martin Hoffman in the 68th Civil District Court. Those placements exposed her to appellate procedure and civil trial practice during the same year she continued to gain practical courtroom experience.
In 2018 Kimbrough took several positions that broadened her experience. She worked as a law clerk at Greater Waco Legal Services and as a legal intern in the McLennan County Criminal District Lawyer’s Office. That year she also spent time at Hendler Flores Law. Each role added a layer — from public-interest work to courtroom support and case preparation.
Before law school and while still completing her undergraduate degree, she held posts that combined public service and campaign organizing. She was a district council aide for the City of San Antonio in 2012 and served as director of field operations for a county commissioner campaign in 2014. On campus she was a senior resident assistant at Texas State University in 2013. Those positions sharpened administrative and leadership skills she later brought into her legal work.
In 2019 she became the managing lawyer at Kimbrough Legal, PLLC. She has also maintained active involvement in professional organizations. Her memberships include the Austin Bar Association, the Austin Black Lawyers Association, the Austin Young Lawyers Association, the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, the Capital Area Trial Lawyers Association and the Texas Bar College. Those affiliations reflect participation in both local and statewide legal communities.
Kimbrough is authorized to practice in Texas and in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas. She divides her time between casework and the administrative responsibilities of running a small firm. She currently practices at Kimbrough Legal, PLLC, handling matters in Texas and in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas.
