About Trey

Trey Porter built his legal foundation through a traditional path of study and practice. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Middle Tennessee State University in 2006. He then completed his legal training at St. Mary’s University School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 2011.

After law school Porter entered the Texas legal market. He spent several years gaining courtroom and casework experience before launching his own practice. In 2017 he became principal of Trey Porter Law, a firm that handles criminal defense matters. He also operates under the name Trey Porter DWI Lawyer, a practice identity that reflects the steady volume of impaired-driving cases he handles.

Porter is licensed to practice in Texas and maintains current professional memberships. He has worked to build a practice that addresses the realities clients face when charged with criminal offenses. His work includes pretrial negotiation, evidentiary hearings, and trial representation. He represents individuals charged with DWI and other criminal offenses, and he handles the related post-conviction and administrative matters that often follow those cases.

Colleagues and clients describe Porter as direct and practical. He approaches cases by breaking complex legal rules into concrete choices for his clients. That means explaining possible outcomes in plain language and outlining the steps needed to protect a client’s driving privileges and record. His courtroom work includes arguing suppression motions and cross-examining witnesses during trial and hearing settings.

Porter’s practice model centers on smaller, client-focused representation. He manages intake and case strategy personally and delegates investigative and administrative tasks to local support staff. This structure keeps him closely involved in the factual development of each matter and in the tactical decisions that arise before and during litigation.

He maintains two local offices operating under his firm names to serve clients across the region. Outside of courtroom hours he continues to follow legal developments that affect criminal procedure and traffic law. He currently focuses his practice on DWI defense and related criminal matters in Texas.
