About Tonya
Tonya Gibbs earned her J.D. from the UDC David A. Clarke School of Law. She moved through law school classrooms and clinic rooms at a time when practical experience mattered as much as doctrine. The degree provided a foundation in litigation and client work that she has built on throughout her career.
She is admitted to practice in Virginia, New Jersey and Florida. Those multi-state admissions shape the practical side of her work. Licensing in three jurisdictions allows her to take matters that cross state lines and to coordinate filings and strategy where jurisdictional differences matter.
Gibbs maintains memberships in several local and regional bar organizations. She is a current member of the Northern Virginia Black Lawyer Association, the Virginia Woman Lawyers Association and the Fredericksburg Area Bar Association. Those memberships connect her to peers and local bench and bar activities. They also provide forums for continuing legal education and community outreach that influence how lawyers exchange practical solutions.
Her career has centered on serving clients who need counsel in more than one place. Over time she developed an approach that prioritizes clear communication. She aims to make legal options understandable. That approach shows up in client meetings, filings and courtroom appearances. She has experience handling procedural matters across courts in different states and coordinating tasks that require prompt action and careful attention to differing rules.
Gibbs’s practice combines courtroom preparation and client counsel. She works on matters that require familiarity with state procedural rules and an ability to navigate administrative requirements. Her admissions in Virginia, New Jersey and Florida let her handle filings and appearances in those states without delay.
Outside of casework she participates in bar association events and continuing education programs. Those activities keep her connected to developments in local practice and provide avenues for mentoring and professional exchange. They also offer a regular check on how court procedures and local rules are evolving.
She maintains a main office and conducts work across the jurisdictions where she is licensed. She continues to serve clients in matters that span Virginia, New Jersey and Florida and manages cases that require coordinated multi-state attention.
Her current practice focuses on representing clients in matters that involve multi-jurisdictional filings, court proceedings and procedural coordination across Virginia, New Jersey and Florida.
