About Margaret
Margaret Byers completed her law degree at William & Mary Marshall-Wythe School of Law in 2023 after earning a bachelor’s degree in political science and American studies from Christopher Newport University in 2020. She entered law school on a clear timetable: learn the law, test it in practice, and return to her home state. Those three years at William & Mary shaped the foundation of her legal thinking and gave her regular exposure to courtroom procedures and appellate reasoning.
She began her professional career at Livesay & Myers, P.C. in 2023, joining the firm as an associate lawyer. Colleagues say she arrived ready to work. Her early assignments involved legal research, drafting pleadings, and preparing memos for supervising attorneys. She also assisted on matters that required coordinating filings and deadlines across multiple courts. That experience helped her learn the practical rhythms of firm practice and the management of client expectations.
Byers’s time in practice has been a period of steady skill-building. She has handled legal writing tasks ranging from discovery motions to client letters. Courtroom exposure has included attending hearings and assisting in trial preparation. She has also supported transactional work by reviewing documents and preparing agreements under the guidance of senior lawyers. The variety of tasks has given her a broad perspective on the daily work of litigation and transactional teams.
Her academic background informs her approach. Studies in political science and American studies cultivated analytical habits that she brings to statutory interpretation and fact analysis. William & Mary reinforced those habits through coursework and clinical opportunities. Peers describe her as methodical in research and precise in citation—traits that matter in drafting briefs and in negotiations where details can change outcomes.
Admitted to practice in Virginia, she is practicing in the state where she trained and studied. She maintains membership in professional circles and attends continuing legal education to keep current on procedural developments and shifting case law. That ongoing learning is part of how she manages the transition from recent graduate to practicing attorney.
She is based at Livesay & Myers, P.C., where she continues to develop her practice on matters handled by the firm. Her current practice focuses on the types of legal work undertaken by Livesay & Myers, P.C.
