About Tom

Tom Walker began his academic path at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he earned a B.A. in History and Political Science in 2002. He later completed his legal education at Birmingham School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 2011. Those years framed his early interest in law and provided the credentials that launched his practice in Alabama.

He entered the field as a solo practitioner in 2011, operating under the name J. Thomas Walker, Lawyer at Law. That initial period gave him hands-on experience representing clients and managing day-to-day operations of a small practice. In 2013 he joined The Law Offices of Candice J. Shockley, where he worked as an associate and expanded his exposure to varied casework and courtroom procedure.

In 2014 he moved into partnership at Maples Tucker and Jacobs, LLC. He has been listed as a partner there since that year. The shift marked a change from solo and associate roles to a leadership position inside a multi-attorney firm. At the same time, he has maintained professional ties to the local legal community through bar association membership.

Walker is admitted to practice in Alabama and has been active in the Birmingham Bar Association since 2011. He appears on the association’s membership rolls and participates in its professional activities. That connection keeps him engaged with peers in the region and with developments in state court practice.

Colleagues describe Walker as a practitioner who handles client matters across the spectrum of state law practice. Over the course of his career he has carried files from intake through resolution, worked in court hearings, and advised clients on procedural steps. He has moved steadily from solo practice to a firm partnership, a path that brought broader case responsibilities and managerial duties.

Outside of firm duties, his record shows continuity rather than frequent lateral moves. He spent short, focused periods at each stage early in his career and then settled into a longer-term role at Maples Tucker and Jacobs, LLC. That pattern has shaped how he approaches cases and client relationships: steady, pragmatic, and tied to the Alabama courts where he practices.

He currently serves as a partner at Maples Tucker and Jacobs, LLC and maintains an active practice in Alabama, handling client representation in state courts and related legal matters.
