About Tom

Tom Clarkson earned his law degree from The University of Georgia School of Law. He came through a traditional American legal education and entered practice prepared to work across state lines. His academic grounding in Athens set the stage for a career that spans both Georgia and North Carolina.

He is licensed to practice in Georgia and North Carolina and holds membership in the State Bar of North Carolina. Over the years he has worked alongside federal and local agencies on matters that brought legal practice into a collaborative setting. His career reflects repeated contacts with investigative bodies and community organizations rather than a single path through government or private practice alone.

Several formal recognitions document that collaboration. In 2018 he received Certificates of Appreciation from the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Department of the Army. The following year, 2019, brought a Certificate of Appreciation from the Department of Health and Human Services and a Certificate of Recognition from the Bedford-Stuyvesant Community Legal Services Corporation. In 2021 the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Savannah and Brunswick resident agencies issued him a Certificate of Recognition. Those honors suggest work that required coordination with federal law enforcement and community legal advocates.

He practices at Griffin Durham Tanner & Clarkson LLC. The firm name places him in a group practice environment where cases and client matters are handled across offices. Within that setting he has been involved in matters that cross jurisdictional and institutional lines. His registration in two states allows him to take on multi-jurisdictional work and to represent clients before agencies that operate at the federal and local levels.

Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who moves between courtroom, agency coordination and community-driven legal efforts. He has engaged in work that required attention to investigative detail and the procedural demands of different agencies. That background has produced a steady stream of acknowledgments from government and nonprofit agencies over the last decade.

He remains an active member of the bar and continues to practice law in Georgia and North Carolina. He represents clients and handles matters that intersect with federal agencies and community legal service providers.
