About Timothy P.
Timothy P. Flynn built a legal career that moves between courtroom procedure, classroom instruction and private practice. He holds a J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law (1988) and a B.A. in History and Economics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (1980). Those academic years set the groundwork for a career that would span appellate work, family law and guardianship matters.
Early in his career Flynn served as a prehearing lawyer at the Michigan Court of Appeals in 1989. He joined private practice as an associate at Plunkett & Cooney, P.C. in 1991. That period gave him direct exposure to litigation and appeals. In 1995 he returned to the University of Detroit Mercy as an assistant professor in the Legal Studies program, teaching courses and mentoring students while maintaining an active relationship with the bar.
Flynn became a partner at Karlstrom Cooney, LLP in 2003. He spent the next several years handling cases, supervising litigation and developing practice systems. In 2009 he founded Clarkston Legal, PLC and remains its owner. His movement from associate to partner to firm founder maps a steady progression into leadership and independent practice.
He is admitted to practice in Michigan and has bar admissions that include the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. His continuing legal education includes family law instruction through the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Ann Arbor. Over the years he has handled family law and guardianship matters, and he has continued appellate work tied to those subject areas.
Outside the office Flynn has been active in local professional groups. He holds membership in the Michigan Guardianship Association since 2006, and he joined the Oakland County Bar Association in 2010. Those affiliations reflect consistent involvement in issues that overlap his casework: guardianship, family law and the procedural elements that drive appeals.
Colleagues and clients know him as a lawyer who blends courtroom experience with teaching experience. Today he practices from Clarkston Legal, PLC. His current work centers on family law, guardianship cases and related appellate matters.
