Timothy Lappen is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1975. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Lappen is a partner at Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchell LLP, a full-service law firm located in Los Angeles, California. He has been practicing law for over 50 years, serving clients throughout Southern California and internationally.
Mr. Lappen earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law, where he graduated in 1975. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of California, Berkeley, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972. During his time at UCLA Law, he was involved in various legal organizations and activities.
Mr. Lappen concentrates his practice in the areas of family office matters, luxury homes, general residential and commercial real estate, entertainment, hospitality, intellectual property, tax, labor, litigation, and land use. He represents individuals, families, family offices, public companies, and private businesses as their outside general counsel. His practice encompasses all stages of legal work, including estate planning, purchase and sale of residences, real estate matters, litigation, labor law, and personal property acquisitions and dispositions, such as fine art, jewelry, collectibles, yachts, aircraft, and motor vehicles.
Throughout his career, Mr. Lappen has handled cases in various courts, including the California Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has also appeared before state and federal trial courts and appellate courts. Prior to joining Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchell LLP, he worked as an associate at a mid-size litigation firm in Century City for five years.
Mr. Lappen is an active member of several professional organizations, including the California Lexington Group, the American Academy for Dance and Kindred Arts, and the Milken Institute Associates. He is also involved in community service, serving as the Director and President of the Center for Childhood and as a coach for the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO). Additionally, he has been recognized by his peers as a "Super Lawyer" in Southern California for multiple years and has been included in The Best Lawyers in America® list every year from 2016 through 2026.
