About Ben
Ben Roxborough has built a career that crosses national boundaries and disciplines. He pairs scientific training with formal legal education. That combination has shaped his professional path from Australia to the United States and back again.
Roxborough completed dual degrees at the University of Wollongong in 2002, earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and an LL.B. He then took a graduate diploma in legal practice in Australia in 2005. Seeking further specialization, he earned an LL.M. from Stanford Law School in 2010 where he studied Law, Science & Technology and worked as a legal researcher and teaching assistant.
Early in his career Roxborough served in judicial roles and in private practice. He clerked at the Federal Court of Australia in 2006 and later held a judicial law clerk position in the U.S. District Courts in 2012. He worked in legal roles in Australia and the PRC, including a stint at King & Wood Mallesons in 2005 and a role at Stephens Lawyers & Consultants in 2008. He also served as a foreign lawyer and law clerk at Sheridan Ross P.C. in 2016.
Since completing his LL.M. he has continued to alternate between practice and teaching. In 2018 he joined Michael Best & Friedrich LLP as a lawyer and that same year taught as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. He later took on a role at K&L Gates in 2021 and moved to Maynard Nexsen PC in 2023.
Roxborough holds admissions in New South Wales and Victoria in Australia, and in Colorado in the United States. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado and the Western District of Wisconsin. He has been a member of the Colorado State Bar since 2017 and maintains an active license there.
His academic background in chemistry combined with an LL.M. in Law, Science & Technology informs the kinds of matters he handles. He frequently works on issues that involve intellectual property, technology-related transactions, patent counseling and cross-border legal questions. He has experience in litigation and transactional settings and has worked on matters that require both scientific literacy and legal judgment.
At Maynard Nexsen PC Roxborough continues to practice law, drawing on his cross-jurisdictional experience and technical training to advise clients on technology, IP and related disputes and transactions.
