About Timothy James
Timothy James Evans followed an unconventional path into law. He completed a B.A. in political science at the University of Mississippi in 1989 and returned to the classroom a decade later to earn his J.D. from Mississippi College School of Law in 1999. Between those degrees he served as an officer in the United States Navy from 1993 to 1996, an interval that preceded his decision to pursue a legal career.
After law school he moved into the judiciary for a time. In 2002 he served as a judicial law clerk at the Court of Appeals of the State of Mississippi. That clerkship gave him direct exposure to the appellate process and the routines of a busy state court. He is admitted to practice in Mississippi and is authorized to appear before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi.
Evans’s courtroom work reflects those admissions. He has handled matters in state and federal courts and has experience in proceedings that require familiarity with both trial and appellate procedures. The mix of clerkship experience and practice in federal forums means he brings a practical understanding of appellate briefing and oral argument, as well as of trial-level litigation mechanics, to the clients and matters he accepts.
Outside the courtroom he has maintained a variety of professional and community affiliations. He held membership in the Mississippi Bar in the mid-2000s, and belonged to the South Central Bar Association during 2008–2009. He was a founding member of Crosspoint Community Church from 2007 to 2009. Those years of involvement suggest an interest in both professional networks and local community institutions during that period.
Evans’s background traces a steady through-line: formal study in the 1980s and 1990s, service in the Navy, a judicial clerkship, and practice that makes use of state and federal admissions. He practices in Mississippi and appears in federal courts in the region. As of 2026 he continues to handle matters in state and federal courts in Mississippi, including work that proceeds to the Fifth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi.
