About Timothy J.

Timothy J. Trott took an unconventional path into the law. He began with a bachelor’s degree in media studies from Fordham University in 1981, then returned to school and earned his J.D. from Widener University Delaware School of Law in 1992. The combination of a liberal arts background and later legal training underpins a career that moves between firm partnership and solo practice.

Soon after earning his law degree, Trott entered private practice. In 1993 he joined Cox and Trott as a partner. That role evolved into a partnership at Crane, Teti, Cox, Trott and Bishay, LLP in 2001. After years in those firm settings he established his own office. In 2009 he began practicing as Lawyer-at-Law at the Law Office of Timothy J. Trott, where he continues to operate.

Trott holds admissions to several federal and state courts. He is admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the United States Tax Court, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. Those credentials allow him to present matters in federal appellate and district courts, before the national tax tribunal, and before the state’s highest court.

Across his time in firms and as a solo practitioner, Trott has blended courtroom work and client counseling. Partnership roles in the 1990s and 2000s involved collaboration on case strategy and firm management. Operating his own office has required handling the full range of tasks a small practice demands: intake, preparation, pleadings, and appearances. The record shows steady progression from firm partner to independent practitioner rather than abrupt shifts.

Colleagues and clients interacting with Trott typically encounter an attorney who has navigated both the institutional environment of law firms and the practical demands of a solo practice. He continues to maintain his practice through the Law Office of Timothy J. Trott. He currently handles litigation and related matters in the jurisdictions where he is admitted.
