About Tim
Tim Semelroth has spent more than two decades building a career that crosses trial work, teaching and bar leadership. He earned his law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1997 after completing undergraduate studies at Drake University in 1994. Early on he moved into litigation roles and has remained tied to courtroom practice throughout his career.
After law school Semelroth joined Riccolo & Baker, PC as an associate in 1998. He became a partner at RSH Legal in 2001 and has practiced there since, taking on trial and case management responsibilities typical of a senior firm lawyer. He stepped into an academic role in 2005 as an adjunct professor at the University of Iowa College of Law, teaching students while maintaining an active practice. That mix of classroom and courtroom work shaped his approach to litigation and mentoring younger lawyers.
Semelroth is board certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy, a credential that signals experience in trial litigation. He has been active in bar and trial groups for years. His memberships include the Iowa Association for Justice, the American Association for Justice, and the American Bar Association. He served as President-Elect of the Iowa Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates for 2015–2016 and has been a Master in the Dean Mason Ladd Chapter of the American Inns of Court since 2015.
He has also taken on governance roles in the Iowa legal community. Semelroth joined the board of the Iowa Foundation for Justice in 2007 and remains involved. He served on the Board of Governors for Iowa Legal Aid from 2007 until 2016. Those positions placed him at the intersection of trial practice, access to justice programs and professional development initiatives in Iowa.
Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who balances trial preparation with practical courtroom experience. He has guided cases from pretrial investigation through trial, and he mentors associates at his firm. His teaching stint at the University of Iowa law school gave him added perspective on lawyering and procedure that he applies in practice.
Semelroth continues to practice at RSH Legal in Iowa. He remains active in trial organizations and legal education while handling litigation matters at his firm. His current practice focuses on civil trial work and related courtroom advocacy.
