About Thomas J.
Thomas J. Olsen began his academic journey in the Midwest, earning a B.S. in Economics and Agriculture from the University of Nebraska in 1985. He went on to Syracuse University College of Law, where he received his J.D. in 1988. Those years set a practical foundation for a career that has crossed coasts and public and private practice.
Fresh out of law school, Olsen started at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft in New York City in 1988. He spent the early 1990s in Southern California, joining Grant & Laubscher in Irvine in 1990 and later working at Olsen & Associates in 1994. Those positions gave him early courtroom and firm experience in a regional market that was expanding rapidly at the time.
In the late 1990s Olsen shifted back toward public service. He joined the Nebraska Department of Justice as an Assistant Lawyer General in 1999. Two years later he took on the role of Assistant City Prosecutor in Omaha. The move into government work deepened his exposure to prosecutorial responsibilities and state-level legal operations, while also reinforcing litigation skills developed in private practice.
By 2004 Olsen had established his own practice, Olsen Law Office, PC LLO. That firm became the base from which he continued work in both private and public-facing roles. His bar admissions include Nebraska, California and New York, reflecting the path of his career between those jurisdictions. He has maintained memberships in several professional organizations over the years, including the American Bar Association. Earlier affiliations record involvement with the National College of District Attorneys in 2000–2001, the State Bar of California from 1989–1999, the California Defense Counsel from 1990–1997, the New York Bar Foundation and the New York City Bar Association in the early 1990s, and leadership in the Orange County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division as chairperson from 1991–1993.
Olsen’s resume shows a lawyer who has alternated between private practice and government roles, gaining courtroom experience and administrative insight along the way. He has handled matters on both coasts and at state and municipal levels. He currently practices at Olsen Law Office, PC LLO and focuses on litigation, including civil defense and criminal matters, as well as advising government clients.
