About Thomas C.

Thomas C. Valkenet earned his law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1983 after completing a bachelor’s degree in political science at Saint Anselm College in 1979. He entered the bar world at a time of change and has practiced through several decades of shifting legal standards and courtroom practice.

He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Maryland, and he holds admission to the U.S. Supreme Court. Those credentials have allowed him to handle matters at trial and on appeal. Over more than four decades since graduating law school, he has worked on litigation that required both written advocacy and courtroom presence.

In 2012 and 2013 he served as an instructor in civil litigation for the Maryland Professionalism Center, Inc. In that role he taught aspects of civil procedure, courtroom practice, and professional responsibility to lawyers and newer practitioners. The position placed him in front of courtroom veterans and recent admittees alike, and it underscored his experience in managing contested civil matters.

His background combines courtroom work and appellate filings. He has prepared pleadings, argued motions and presented oral argument, drawing on years of practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia. Admission to the nation’s high court signals an ability to participate in matters that range beyond trial courts, and the work has required sustained attention to briefing and precedent.

Colleagues describe his courtroom approach as straightforward. He tends to focus on clear legal points and practical remedial requests rather than ornate theoretical arguments. That approach applies both to motion practice and to longer appeals, where terseness and precision in writing matter as much as delivery in oral argument.

Valkenet remains active in practice, handling civil litigation and appellate matters in Maryland and the District of Columbia. He draws on a long legal education and decades of courtroom work to represent clients in contested civil cases and in appellate proceedings, concentrating his practice on civil litigation and appellate work across the two jurisdictions.
