About Tessie D.
Tessie D. Edwards began her legal path in Indianapolis, where she completed a Bachelor of Arts at Indiana University before earning her J.D. from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2005. She joined the State Bar of Georgia that same year and established the foundations of a career split between public service and private practice.
Early in her career Edwards served in prosecutorial roles in Georgia. In 2006 she worked as an Assistant Solicitor General in the Clayton County Solicitor General’s Office. The following year she served as a prosecutor in the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office. Those positions put her in courtrooms across the region and gave her frequent exposure to trial work, evidentiary rulings and case preparation under tight deadlines.
After several years in public service, Edwards moved into private practice and eventually formed her own firm, Tessie D. Edwards & Associates. She acts as founder and principal attorney. Her background as a former prosecutor informs how she approaches case strategy. Clients and colleagues describe someone comfortable in both the courthouse and in negotiations. She has handled matters that required early investigative work, witness preparation and courtroom advocacy.
Edwards maintains active memberships in several professional groups. She is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, where her membership dates back to 2005. She also holds membership in the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association and the Georgia Association of Black Women Lawyers. Those affiliations keep her connected to developments in state law and to bar activities that shape practice standards.
Her practice mixes trial experience and case management. Cases she has taken to trial and those resolved before trial reflect an emphasis on litigation mechanics. She draws on her prior roles as a prosecutor when evaluating evidence and preparing cross-examination. At the same time, her private practice work requires managing client expectations, coordinating discovery and pursuing favorable resolutions when possible.
Colleagues note Edwards’ straightforward courtroom manner. She does not rely on rhetorical flourish; she presents facts and argues law. Outside the courtroom she supervises case teams and attends continuing legal education to stay current on procedural changes. She is based in Georgia and leads Tessie D. Edwards & Associates, P.C. She currently concentrates her practice on criminal defense and related trial matters.
