About Susan T.
Susan T. Perkins earned her J.D. from Roger Williams University School of Law in 1997. She entered the practice of law in New England soon after graduation and has spent her career handling contested matters in state and federal courts. The early years of her practice involved courtroom work and the steady accumulation of procedural experience common to trial attorneys.
She is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and before the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. That range of admissions allows her to appear in trial courts across multiple jurisdictions and to pursue appellate matters when cases require review beyond the trial level.
Her work centers on divorce and family law and on criminal defense. In family court she handles divorce, child custody and child support matters as well as post-judgment modifications and enforcement issues. On the criminal side she represents clients at arraignments, hearings and trials, and she manages plea negotiations and post-conviction matters where appropriate. Her files include both contested litigation and negotiated resolutions; she prepares motions, argues in court and advises clients on procedural and substantive choices that affect their cases.
Perkins maintains offices in Providence and Newport. Those offices operate under the Law Office of Susan T. Perkins, Esq., and serve clients across Rhode Island and in neighboring states. She represents individuals in state courts and, when necessary, has taken matters through appeals in the First Circuit. Her practice is structured to provide both courtroom representation and the day-to-day case management that family and criminal matters require.
Clients work with her on a range of issues from initial petitions and criminal charges to long-term post-judgment arrangements. She documents court filings, handles discovery, and appears at hearings and trials when cases move beyond settlement talks. The practice combines fact development, procedural advocacy and negotiated resolution. Her current practice concentrates on divorce, criminal defense and family law matters.
