About Susan
Susan Ament earned her law degree from Widener University Delaware School of Law in 1982 after completing a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Delaware in 1979. Her academic record placed her in the legal community at a time when the practice landscape in Delaware and nearby Pennsylvania was changing fast. She entered practice prepared for courtroom work and dispute resolution.
Ament is admitted to practice in both Pennsylvania and Delaware. Over several decades she has combined litigation and alternative dispute resolution. She has worked on matters in state courts and before administrative tribunals. That mix of forums has shaped a pragmatic approach to how cases are evaluated and advanced.
She took on leadership roles early in her career. In 1994 she served as president of the St. Thomas More Society. From 1994 to 1997 she was a member of the State of Delaware Board of Bar Examiners, a position that involved overseeing aspects of the state’s lawyer admissions process. Those posts placed her in the thick of professional governance at a formative time in her career.
Ament’s professional affiliations are broad. She maintains memberships in the Delaware State Bar Association, the American Bar Association for Justice, the American and Delaware Trial Lawyers’ Associations, the Carpenter-Walsh Delaware Pro Bono Inn of Court and the Randy J. Holland Delaware Worker’s Compensation Inn of Court. She has also been involved with the Delaware Bar Foundation. In addition, she has had ties to organizations such as the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the National Health Lawyers Association. Her work on the State of Delaware Industrial Accident Board Rules Committee reflected an interest in the rules that govern administrative adjudication.
Outside of traditional advocacy she serves as a mediator for the State of Delaware Superior Court. That role keeps her active in case resolution and provides a behind-the-scenes perspective on settlement dynamics. Her mix of courtroom experience, administrative involvement and service on professional bodies gives her a rounded view of civil practice in the region.
She practices at Morris James Personal Injury Group and has built a practice that handles personal injury matters in Delaware and Pennsylvania. Her current work centers on personal injury litigation and related dispute resolution in those jurisdictions.
